Kerinci

In the heart of Jambi, Kerinci Valley lies between the mountains of the Bukit Barisan range, surrounded by forests, highland farms, and the dramatic landscape of Mount Kerinci. The region’s combination of cool mountain air, high elevation, abundant rainfall, and fertile volcanic surroundings creates the foundation for a distinctive coffee-growing environment. What makes Kerinci compelling is this sense of place — a remote highland valley where mountains, forests, agriculture, and community come together.

For years, coffee from Kerinci often left the region as parchment, before its full character could be explored locally.

Then came a turning point in 2017. Kerinci coffee gained national recognition after winning the Indonesian Specialty Coffee Contest, followed by top honors at Jakarta Coffee Week. The recognition helped bring wider attention to Kerinci as an emerging specialty coffee origin.

Since then, local producers have continued to bring more processing closer to the farms, giving greater attention to fermentation, drying, and lot selection. This has opened the door to more expressive coffees while allowing the character of Kerinci to be developed with greater precision.
